SYMPTOMS

When you use the Value Pack Installer or Custom Installer to install additional shared components for Microsoft Office 98 Macintosh Edition, the following message may appear:

No installation was necessary. The files to be installed are already on
your hard disk, or are not needed for your hardware setup.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when one of the following conditions is true:

You move the Microsoft Office 98:Shared Applications folder to the Trash.

-or-
You rename the Microsoft Office 98:Shared Applications folder.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use one of the following methods.

Method 1: Rename the Shared Applications folder to Shared Applications

If you renamed the Shared Applications folder to a name other than "Shared Applications," rename the folder "Shared Applications" again. To rename the folder, follow these steps:

Use the Finder to locate the folder that was previously the Shared Applications folder.
Click the name of the folder. Type "Shared Applications" (without the quotation marks).

Method 2: Reinstall Office 98

If the Shared Applications folder has been moved to the Trash, you must use this method.
