SYMPTOMS

When you save a file in any of the Microsoft Office 98 Macintosh Edition programs, you may receive one of the following error messages:

The application <program> has unexpectedly quit, because an
Error of type 1 occurred.

You should save your work in other open applications and restart the
Computer.

-or-

The application "Microsoft Excel" has unexpectedly quit, because an
error of type 2 occurred.

You should save your work in other open applications and restart the
computer.

-or-

Sorry, a System error occurred.
bus error
To temporarily turn off extensions, restart and hold down the SHIFT key.

CAUSE

This problem may occur if you are running Port Juggler version 4.7.x on your computer.

WORKAROUND

Use one of the following methods to work around the problem.

Method 1

Install version 4.6 of Port Juggler.

Method 2

Disable the Power Port extensions. To do this, follow these steps:

Point to Control Panels on the Apple menu, and then click Extensions Manager.
Click to clear the check box for any of the following extensions:
Port Juggler
PJ 4x
PJ Classic
PJ Power
PJ Power5
Click Restart.
