Article ID: 187831 - Last Review: July 25, 2000 - Revision: 1.0 OL98: Toolbars Moved in a Mail Message Are Not PersistentThis article was previously published under Q187831 On This PageSYMPTOMS
Toolbar customizations in a mail message, such as moving or adding toolbars
are not retained after you exit Microsoft Outlook 98.
CAUSE
If Microsoft Word is set as your default mail editor, you can't save
changes to the e-mail templates when they are modified during an Outlook
session. Any changes made to the menus and toolbars of the template are
retained only while Outlook is running.
This does not occur if your default e-mail editor is Plain Text, HTML, or Microsoft Rich Text. RESOLUTION
Open the email.dot template in Word. Make your changes and
save the modified document template.
-or- Change your default e-mail editor to Plain Text, HTML, or Microsoft Rich Text and then make changes. MORE INFORMATION
When you make modifications to the toolbar, menu, or buttons when you use
Word as your e-mail editor, those changes only remain during the current Outlook session. Once you quit and restart Outlook, any changes are lost.
You can make permanent modifications to the email.dot file only if you open it in Word. A limitation is that any changes made are reflected in Word also. This may not be acceptable. Customizing Toolbars and Menus in Word
