SYMPTOMS

Using Microsoft Outlook 98 you have been able to view forwarded mail messages as envelope icons when viewing the received message in the Preview Pane; now you see only the paper clip icon.

CAUSE

You changed your mail format to Plain Text or HTML. The ability to display mail envelope icons in the Preview Pane requires that a rich text-based format be selected.

RESOLUTION

Change your mail format to either Microsoft Outlook Rich Text or Microsoft Word. To change your mail format to a rich text-based editor, follow these steps:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options and then Mail Format.
  2. In Message Format click "Send in this message format" to select either Microsoft Outlook Rich Text or Microsoft Word. Click OK.

NOTE: In order to use Microsoft Word as an e-mail editor, it is necessary to have Word 97 installed on your computer.
