Err Msg: The Explorer.exe File Is Linked to Missing Export...

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to open a compressed folder, the compressed folder may not open or you may receive the following error message:
Error Starting Program

The EXPLORER.EXE file is linked to missing export USER32.DLL:IsHungAppWindow.
If you click OK, you may receive the following error message:
A device attached to the system is not functioning.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if a damaged or incorrect version of the Explorer.exe file is located in the same folder as the compressed folder.

NOTE: This behavior is more likely to occur if you configure the computer to dual-boot between Microsoft Windows 98 and Microsoft Windows NT version 4.0.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, move the compressed folder into a different folder before you attempt to open it.

For information about how to move a folder, click Start, click Help, click the Index tab, type moving files, folders, and then click Display.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Plus! 98, version 1.0.
