Commerce Predictor: SQL Server Timeouts Occur

This article was previously published under Q188247

SYMPTOMS

SQL Server timeouts may occur on Commerce Server sites whose databases contain a very large number of orders, and which use the Predictor component. The timeout can occur when calling InitPredictor.

CAUSE

ActiveX Data Objects (ADO) imposes a default 30-second timeout limit per command. The Predictor component does not allow this default to be changed, and InitPredictor can reach this limit with large data sets. The updated Predictor component in the service pack increases the timeout value.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, apply the latest Site Server 3.0 service pack.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Site Server version 3.0. This problem has been corrected in the latest U.S. service pack for Microsoft Site Server version 3.0. For information on obtaining the service pack, query on the following word in the Microsoft Knowledge Base (without the spaces):
