SYMPTOMS

Each time you send a fax using Symantec WinFax Starter Edition in Microsoft Outlook 98, you receive a dialog box that makes you verify the fax number before proceeding. If the number is long distance, you must type a "1" before you click Send.

RESOLUTION

If you place calls within the United States, manually type +1 at the beginning of the fax number in each of your existing Contacts.

To have the +1 automatically added to all future contacts you create, follow these steps:

  1. In the Folder List, click the Contacts folder.
  2. On the Actions menu, point to Call Contact and click New Call.
  3. Click Dialing Options.
  4. Click to select "Automatically add country code to local phone numbers." Click OK and Close to close all dialog boxes.
If your phone system requires that you dial a number for an outside line, click Dialing Properties. Type the access number in "To access an outside line, first dial X for local, X for long distance," where X represents the number required for an outside line. Even if you normally dial 1 for your long distance calls, type the same number. For example, if you normally dial 9 for an outside line, and 1 for a long distance call, type 9 in both boxes. Click OK to close the Dialing Properties dialog box.

When you create a new Contact, or add a new telephone number to a Contact, Outlook automatically adds the +1 prefix.

The +1 at the beginning of the phone number also prevents the confirmation dialog box from appearing.
