SYMPTOMS

You may receive a STOP 0x0000000A in Netbt.sys.

CAUSE

When Windows NT 4.0 computers are configured to use DNS for Windows name resolution and if they query a DNS for a computer name and receive 0.0.0.0 as the IP address, the computer may display a blue screen error.

RESOLUTION

To work around the problem, remove the invalid record from the DNS.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Windows NT 4.0 and Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition. This problem was first corrected in Windows NT 4.0 Service Pack 4.0 and Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition Service Pack 4.
