SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Outlook 98, when you click the New Message, New Journal Entry, or New Contact button on the Office Shortcut Bar, or you click a Mail-to link on a Web page, you may receive one of the following error messages:
Can't create the item.
or
The object could not be found.

CAUSE

The shortcuts mentioned above use Microsoft Outlook 98 forms. The Exchange Forms are now registered and Outlook cannot automatically switch between form types.

RESOLUTION

If you currently use Outlook in the Corporate or Workgroup mode, rerun Setup for Outlook 98 and use Add Components to reinstall the Corporate or Workgroup E-mail Service.

If you currently use Outlook in the Internet Mail Only mode, rerun Setup for Outlook 98 and use Add Components to reinstall the Internet Only E-mail Service.

Note: To check which mode you are currently using, click "About Microsoft Outlook" from the Outlook Help menu.
