PPT97: Custom Settings Lost After Installing SR-2 Patch

SUMMARY

After installing the Microsoft Office Service Release 2 (SR-2) patch, PowerPoint 97 no longer recognizes your custom settings stored in the Blank Presentation.pot template. This behavior occurs because the PowerPoint executable file (Powerpnt.exe) is newer than the Blank Presentation.pot template file. PowerPoint ignores the Blank Presentation.pot if its last modified date is earlier than the modified date of the PowerPoint executable. PowerPoint will use the Blank Presentation.pot file if the last modified date is later than that of the executable file. To have the custom settings stored in the Blank Presentation.pot template available, open and save the Blank Presentation.pot file before you begin using PowerPoint after installing the SR-2 patch. The Blank Presentation.pot file is located in the \Program Files\Microsoft Office\Templates folder by default.
