Dividing a site into multiple subWebs makes administrative and authoring
tasks, such as changing themes, publishing changes, and even finding
specific files, easier. In addition, if you have a large Web site, you can
use subWebs to keep track of each author's work by assigning each author
his/her own subWebs. This article describes how to divide a large root Web
into several smaller subWebs.
To divide a large root Web into several smaller subWebs, use the
appropriate method for your version of FrontPage.
On the File menu, point to New, and then click FrontPage Web.
In the New FrontPage Web dialog box, click the From Wizard Or Template
option. From the list of templates, click Empty Web. In the Choose a
Title for your FrontPage Web box, type the title for your subWebs.
NOTE: Make sure you see the correct address for the Web server and
subweb below the title, for example:
http://localhost/mysubweb
If the address is incorrect, click Change and type the path for the
subweb so that it looks similar to the example above.
Click OK.
On the File menu, click Import.
In the "Import File to FrontPage Web" dialog box, click Add File.
In the Add File to Import List dialog box, click Browse and locate your
root Web.
The following table shows the typical locations for the root Web of
common Web servers. The actual location may vary depending on the
installation options of FrontPage and of the Web Server.
Web Server Location
--------------------------------------------------------------------
FrontPage Personal Web Server C:\FrontPage Webs\Content
Microsoft Personal Web Server C:\Webshare\Wwwroot
Microsoft Internet Information Server C:\Inetpub\Wwwroot
Microsoft Peer Web Server C:\Inetpub\Wwwroot
NOTE: You can press CTRL and click each file you want to add to the
subweb.
Click Open and click OK.
Repeat steps 1 through 7 to create the subWebs for the Web site.
Open the root Web and delete the files that you imported into the
subweb.
NOTES: If you want to use hyperlinks to move from the root Web to a
subweb or between subWebs, you must use an absolute hyperlink like the
following:
Also, if you use shared borders and navigation bars, you may experience
some problems. For additional information about using navigation bars to
link to pages outside the current Web, please see the following article
