To configure the Direct Cable Connection tool for optimal performance across a serial-port connection, configure your Serial Cable device in Device Manager to a high speed. To do so, use the following steps:

NOTE: The following procedure must be performed on both the Host and the Client computers.

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click System, click the Device Manager tab, double-click the Modems branch to expand it, click Serial Cable On COM<serial port number> where <serial port number> is the number of the COM port to which the serial cable is connected, and then click Properties.
  3. Click the Modem tab, and then configure the Maximum Speed up to 115,200.
  4. Click OK, click OK, and then restart your computer.
