OFF2000: OSB Buttons Move or Appear When Renamed

SYMPTOMS

When you rename a Microsoft Office Shortcut Bar (OSB) button and then click OK, the following problems may occur:

  • Renamed buttons that previously appeared on the Office Shortcut Bar are moved to the end of the toolbar.

    -or-
  • Renamed buttons that did not previously appear on the Office Shortcut Bar, appear on the toolbar.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use the following steps:
  1. With the right mouse button click (right-click) Start on the taskbar and click Explore.
  2. Open the Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\Shortcut Bar folder.
  3. Open the folder that contains the toolbar buttons you want to rename.
  4. Click the file with the name of the button to rename. On the File menu, click Rename.
  5. With file name selected, type the new name for the button and press ENTER.
  6. Close the Windows Explorer.
The Office Shortcut Bar should display the new name for the button. If the new name does not appear, right-click the Office Shortcut Bar, and then click Refresh Icons.
