SYMPTOMS

When you view a Web page called from a CGI program running from a Secure Socket Layer (SSL) page that calls Web pages from a non-SSL server, you may receive an 800c800 error message with the following text:
Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet site https://site

The server returned an invalid or unrecognized response.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because Internet Explorer is not accepting the redirection of CGI information from a non-SSL server to an SSL server.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue:
  1. On the Tools (or View) menu, click Internet Options.
  2. Click the Advanced tab.
  3. Click to clear the Use HTTP 1.1 and Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections check boxes, and then click OK.
  4. Quit and then start Internet Explorer.

APPLIES TO
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0
