OFF2000: Starting a Program Prompts for User Name on Windows NT

SYMPTOMS

When you start a Microsoft Office 2000 program, a Windows Installer dialog box appears. After the Windows Installer finishes configuring Microsoft Office 2000, the User Name dialog box appears, prompting you for your name and your initials.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when the following conditions are true:
  • You are running Microsoft Windows NT version 4.0 or Microsoft Windows 2000.

    -and-

  • You are running an Office 2000 program for the first time.

    -and-

  • A different user was logged on to the computer when Office 2000 was installed.

MORE INFORMATION

You will not be prompted for your name a second time.
