OFF2000: Internet Explorer Compatibility Mode Not Available in Office Setup

SYMPTOMS

When you install Office, you do not have a choice to install the Compatibility mode of Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5.

WORKAROUND

To install the Compatibility mode, you must uninstall and reinstall Internet Explorer 5.

To Uninstall Internet Explorer 5

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
  3. Click Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 and Internet Tools, and then click Add/Remove.
  4. Click Restore the previous Windows configuration, and then click OK.
  5. Click OK in the Internet Explorer 5 and Internet Tools Setup dialog box.
  6. Click Yes in the Setup Message dialog box.
  7. Click Yes in the Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 dialog box.
  8. Click Restart Windows.

To Reinstall Internet Explorer 5

  1. Insert your Microsoft Office 2000 CD into the CD-ROM drive.
  2. Browse to the Ie5\Eng folder.
  3. Double-click Ie5setup.exe.
  4. Click I accept the agreement, and then click Next.
  5. Click Install Minimal, or customize your browser, and then click Next.
  6. Click Advanced.
  7. Click to select the Compatibility check box, and then click OK.
  8. Click Next in the Component Options dialog box.
  9. Click Finish in the Restart Computer dialog box.
NOTE: If your computer is not running Internet Explorer 4.0 when you follow these steps, you cannot select the Compatibility option. You can download or install the Compatibility mode only when you upgrade from Internet Explorer 4.0.
