Description of the Microsoft Windows Registry
SYMPTOMS
When you start WordPad or Paint, you may receive the following error message:
filename caused an invalid page fault in module Mfc42.dll at memory address CAUSE
This behavior can occur if the registry entries for WordPad or Paint are damaged.
RESOLUTIONWARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may
require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve
problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own
risk. To resolve this issue, uninstall WordPad and Paint, delete the registry keys for the programs, and then reinstall WordPad and Paint:
