Web Pages Appear with Garbled Text

SYMPTOMS

Garbled text may appear at the top and bottom of a Web page.

CAUSE

This problem can occur if you are using the Spanish localized version of Macintosh Operating System (Mac OS) 8.1 and your hard disk is formatted using the Mac OS Extended File System (HFS+) file system.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, use one of the follow methods:
  • Reformat your hard disk using the Hierarchical File System (HFS) file system, install the Spanish localized version of Mac OS 8.1, and then install the Spanish localized version of Internet Explorer 4.0, 4.01, or 4.5 for Macintosh.
  • Continue using the HFS+ file system, install the Spanish localized version of MAC OS 8.5, and then install the Spanish localized version of Internet Explorer 4.0, 4.01, or 4.5 for Macintosh.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Internet Explorer versions 4.0, 4.01, and 4.5 for Macintosh.

MORE INFORMATION

This problem affects only the Spanish localized version of Mac OS 8.1 with the HFS+ file system installed.
