SYMPTOMS

When creating a new Web using the Discussion Web Wizard, you are allowed to select the Yes, only registered users are allowed button, even if the Web is not located on a server that supports the creation of protected Webs.

CAUSE

FrontPage 2000 allows you to create Web sites with features that require a Web server, even if one is not currently present to support the feature. Although the feature is available, the protected Web can only be configured on a server that supports protection.

RESOLUTION

Publish the protected discussion Web onto a server that supports protected Webs or registration, or both.

NOTE: The Yes, only registered users are allowed button does not alter permissions on the Web to secure it. Protection through registration is only intended to have users identify themselves before posting.

MORE INFORMATION

To be protected, your Web must be located on a Web server with an NTFS partitioned drive or a Web server that supports protection.
