Error Message Removing Internet Explorer on Dual-Boot Computer

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to uninstall Internet Explorer, you may receive the following error message:
The directory name is invalid.
regsvr32.exe /u /s "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Triedit\triedit.dll"
When you click OK, you may receive the following error message:
Internet Explorer 5 and Internet Tools was not completed successfully.
When you click OK, you may receive one of the following error messages:
An application error has occurred and an application error log is being generated.
SETUP.exe
Exception access violation (0xc0000005). Address: 0x620050ec
This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.
If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.
If you click Details, you may receive the following error message:
SETUP caused an invalid page fault in module unknown at address

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if both Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 and either Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows 98 are installed on the same partition. In this situation, some Internet Explorer files are installed by default in the Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared folder. If you uninstall Internet Explorer in one of the two operating systems, some shared files and folders are deleted. If you then uninstall Internet Explorer in the other operating system, some files and folders (including the folder containing the Triedit.dll file) cannot be deleted because they have already been deleted.

RESOLUTION

Install Internet Explorer in the second operating system again, and then uninstall it again.
