ERROR MESSAGE

When you attempt to start an Office program, the following error message appears:
This application requires the Windows Installer to run.
NOTE: Microsoft Office 2000 has built-in functionality that allows you to get more information about difficult-to-troubleshoot alerts or error messages. CAUSE

The Windows Installer is missing or damaged.

THINGS TO TRY

To manually install the Windows Installer, follow these steps:
  1. Insert Microsoft Office 2000 CD 1 or CD 2 in the CD-ROM drive.
  2. Click Start, point to Programs and click Windows Explorer. Browse to the Msi folder on the CD.
  3. Double-click Instmsi.exe for Microsoft Windows 95 or later, or Instmsiw.exe for Windows NT version 4.0.
