PPT2000: Error Message: The Specified Rex ASD File 'Filename.asd' Can't Be Found

When you try start a remote broadcast after scheduling a local broadcast, you may receive the following error message: Where Drive is a drive letter or server name, Path is a directory path, and <filename>.asd refers to either the Audio.asd or Video.asd. NOTE: Microsoft Office 2000 has built-in functionality that allows you to get more information about difficult-to-troubleshoot alerts or error messages. Normally, this occurs when the "Camera/microphone is connected to a remote computer" check box is not selected, when the broadcast is initially scheduled, and is selected when you attempt to change the location for the broadcast files to a remote location. On occasion the <filename>.asd file is not copied to the new location.

You will have to reschedule the presentation broadcast for your presentation to use the remote server, rather than changing the location of an existing scheduled presentation broadcast. The first step is to delete the existing broadcast.

How To Reschedule a Broadcast

To reschedule a broadcast, follow these steps:

1. Open the presentation broadcast that you want to delete.
2. On the Slide Show menu, point to Online Broadcast, and then click Set Up and Schedule.
3. Click Change settings or reschedule a broadcast, and then click OK.
4. Click the broadcast you want to delete, and then click Delete. Use your E-mail program to send cancellation notices to the audience members.

Next, you will need to schedule your broadcast to run off the remote server.

Scheduling a Remote Broadcast

To schedule a remote broadcast, follow these steps:

1. Open the presentation that you want to broadcast.
2. On the Slide Show menu, point to Online Broadcast, and then click Set Up and Schedule.
3. Click Set Up and schedule a new broadcast, and then click OK.
4. On the Description tab, fill in the information that you want displayed on the lobby page for the broadcast.
   
   To preview the lobby page in your browser, click Preview Lobby Page.
5. Use one of the following steps:
   
   If you or a system administrator has already set your broadcast options, skip to step ten.
   
   If you need to set options for broadcasting, click the Broadcast Settings tab, and then select the options you want.
6. To set options for the server location, click Server Options.
7. Under Step 1, specify a location to which all participants have access.
8. If you have a NetShow server on your network, then you only need to fill in the Server name under Step 2.
   
   If you use a NetShow service provider, follow directions from the provider on how to set up and schedule a broadcast. Fill in this information under Step 2.
9. After all of your server options are set, click OK.
10. Click Schedule Broadcast. Your e-mail program starts.
11. Use one of the following steps::
    
    If you have it, use Microsoft Outlook to arrange a broadcast. For more information, see Outlook Help.
    
    If you do not have Outlook, type the broadcast date and time in the message. The URL of the broadcast site will be included in the message.
