Icons on the Quick Launch Toolbar Do Not Respond to Shortcut Key

SYMPTOMS

When you use a shortcut key to start a program on the Quick Launch toolbar, the program may not start.

CAUSE

This issue can occur if the shortcut key is only configured in the shortcut icon located on the Quick Launch toolbar.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, follow these steps:
  1. Right-click the icon on the Quick Launch toolbar, and then drag it to your desktop.
  2. Click Create Shortcut Here.
  3. Right-click the shortcut icon on the desktop, and then click Properties.
  4. Assign the shortcut key to this shortcut, and then click OK.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Windows 2000.
