Connection Setting Changed After Running Registration Wizard

SYMPTOMS

When you run the Microsoft Windows 98 Registration Wizard, the "Dial-up settings" option may be changed from "Dial whenever a network connection is not present" to "Always dial my default connection" on the Connections tab in Internet properties.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs only if Internet Explorer 5 for Windows 98 is installed.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, reconfigure the "Dial-up settings" option to use the "Dial whenever a network connection is not present" setting:
  1. In Internet Explorer, click Internet Options on the Tools menu.
  2. Click the Connections tab.
  3. Click Dial whenever a network connection is not present.
  4. Click OK.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
