Cannot Connect to AOL After Upgrading to Windows 2000

When you attempt to connect to America Online (AOL) after upgrading to Windows 2000, you may receive one of the following error messages in AOL: When this occurs, AOL may attempt to connect continually.

You will need AOL 6.0 software to work with Windows 2000.

To resolve this issue:

1. Make sure that the modem is working properly in Windows 2000:
   1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
   2. Double-click Phone and Modem Options.
   3. Click the Modems tab.
   4. Click your modem, and then click Properties.
   5. Click the Diagnostics tab.
   6. Click Query Modem. If the modem does not respond to diagnostics, make sure that the modem is supported in Windows 2000 and that you have the most current drivers for the modem. Contact the manufacturer of the modem for updated drivers for Windows 2000.
2. If the modem responds to diagnostics, verify the version of the AOL software. There are two versions of the AOL 5.0 software. If you have the older version, contact AOL to obtain an updated CD-ROM that contains the version that is designed for Windows 2000. If you can connect to AOL, you can also download the update by typing the keyword "upgrade" while you are connected to AOL.
   
   You can determine your version of AOL by clicking About America Online on the Help menu in AOL. The version that works with Windows 2000 states "America Online 5.0 for Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT, and Windows 2000 Revision 204.33 (32-bit)."
