You receive an "Error applying transforms" error message when you run Office 2000 Setup from a hyperlink

SYMPTOMS

When you run Office Setup, the following error message appears:
Error applying transforms. Verify that the specified transform paths are valid.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:
  • You started Office Setup by clicking a hyperlink on a Web page.

    -and-

  • The Setup.ini file refers to a transform created by the Custom Installation Wizard (CIW).

    -and-

  • The reference to the transform in the Setup.ini file is not fully qualified.

RESOLUTION

This problem was resolved in the Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1/1a (SR-1/SR-1a) Administrator Update.
