FP2000: Images Aren't Viewable in Internet Explorer 5 with Word Document as an Include Page

SYMPTOMS

When you use a Microsoft Word document with images as an include page in a Web page, the images are not viewable in Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.

CAUSE

When you save the document in Word as a Web page, VML code similar to the following is written for an inserted image:

<![if !vml]><img width=220 height=133
src="./Doc1_files/image001.jpg" alt=xxxxx align=top border=0 v:shapes="_x0000_i1025"><![endif]></p>

When you use the Word document as an include page, this information is not held in the body of the FrontPage document. To display Vector Markup Language (VML) properly, Internet Explorer needs information that is found in the <HEAD>, <HTML>, and <STYLE> tags of the Word document. Because this VML code is not brought into FrontPage when you include the Word document, Internet Explorer cannot render the VML for the image.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, create a hyperlink to the Word document rather than inserting is by using an Include Page component. To create the hyperlink to the Word document, follow these steps:

Start FrontPage and open the page.
On the Insert menu, click Hyperlink.
In the Create Hyperlink dialog box, select the Word document that you want to link to and click OK.
