SYMPTOMS

Adding two or more tool band objects to Internet Explorer 5 results in duplicate menu items in Internet Explorer's View/Toolbar menu.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

This problem was corrected in Windows 2000.

MORE INFORMATION

The following Web page describes how to add custom tool band objects to Internet Explorer 5.0 that are patterned on the Radio tool band:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/workshop/browser/ext/overview/bands.asp (http://msdn.microsoft.com/workshop/browser/ext/overview/bands.asp)
When a new tool band is added using the instructions on the Web page, its menu item, displayed in Internet Explorer's View/Toolbar menu, duplicates the menu item for the first registered tool band object under the following registry key:
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Toolbar

In other words, the default text value for the CLSID of the first registered tool band object is what will appear, in the View\Toolbar menu, for all registered tool band objects.

APPLIES TO
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.0
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5
