Microsoft Outlook Web Access (OWA) gives you Web-based client access to e-mail, calendaring, public folders, and collaborative programs in Microsoft Exchange Server.
OWA is not installed with BackOffice Small Business Server (SBS) by default; you must manually install OWA after you install SBS on your computer.
OWA is a combination of Microsoft Active Server Page (ASP) technology on the server side, and Java Technologies controls and scripting that are downloaded to the client.
OWA requires that ASP technology be installed on the server. SBS 4.5 ships with Microsoft Internet Information Server 4.0, which has ASP built in.
To install OWA on a computer running SBS 4.5:
- Put the SBS 4.5 CD-ROM 3 into the CD-ROM drive on the server.
- Locate the ExchSrvr\Server\Setup\I386 folder.
- Run Setup.exe.
- Click Add/Remove.WARNING:Any installed Exchange component will be removed by the Exchange setup program if its corresponding check box is unchecked during this procedure. Since this procedure involves adding a component (Outlook Web Access) to the server which is not installed, check the box next to Outlook Web Access only in the next step. Leave the other options checked if already checked.
- Click to select the Outlook Web Access check box. The correct appearance of the check boxes for SBS 4.5 Exchange installations after completing this step is as follows:
[x] Microsoft Exchange Server
[x] Microsoft Exchange Administrator
[ ] Books Online (this option may or may not be checked. Leave as is.)
[x] Outlook Web Access
Verify that the check boxes listed above are selected, then click Continue. - Click OK, to stop the Internet information services.
- After the installation is finished, locate the ExchSrvr.Sp2\Server\Setup\I386 folder, run Update.exe (this reapplies Exchange Server Service Pack 2), and then click OK.
- Click OK, to stop the Internet information services.
- Click OK, to back up the existing Webdata folder.
- Click OK, when you receive an informational dialog box explaining that the Exchange Server services will be stopped.
- Click OK, when you receive an informational dialog box saying that the installation is successful.
NOTE: Before you install OWA, make sure you have a viable backup of your SBS computer and your Exchange Server information.
