SUMMARY

In earlier versions of Office, if you want to change the company name displayed in the Office splash screens and About program name on the Help menu (where program name is the program you are using), you uninstall Office, run Setup again, and enter a new company name. In Office 2000, to change the name of the company, you modify the Windows registry.

Important This section, method, or task contains steps that tell you how to modify the registry. However, serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Therefore, make sure that you follow these steps carefully. For added protection, back up the registry before you modify it. Then, you can restore the registry if a problem occurs. To change the company name displayed in the Office programs, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, and then click Run.
  2. In the Open box, type regedit and click OK.
  3. Locate and select the following key for the appropriate operating system.
    • In Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98, Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me), Microsoft Windows NT, and Microsoft Windows 2000, select
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\GUID
where GUID is the Product Code for the version of Office that is installed, for example, {00000409-78E1-11D2-B60F-006097C998E7}.

More than one GUID may be listed under the Uninstall subkey. If more than one GUID is listed, select each GUID until you find the one that has the correct product name listed for the DisplayName value, for example, "Microsoft Office 2000 Premium."
    • In Microsoft Windows XP, select
      HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\Userdata\SID\Products\GUID\InstallProperties
where SID is related to the logged-on user, and where GUID is the Product Code for the version of Office that is installed, for example, {00000409-78E1-11D2-B60F-006097C998E7}.

More than one GUID may be listed under the InstallProperties subkey. If more than one is listed, select each GUID until you find the one that has the correct product name listed for the DisplayName value, for example, "Microsoft Office XP Premium."
  4. If the RegCompany name entry exists in the Name column, proceed to step 7.
  5. On the Edit menu, click New, and then click String Value.
  6. Type RegCompany and then press ENTER.
  7. In the Name column, double-click RegCompany.
  8. Change the text in the Value data box, and then click OK.
  9. Locate and select the following key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Common\UserInfo
  10. On the Edit menu, click Rename.
  11. Type OldUserInfo and then press ENTER.
  12. Locate and select the following key:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\9.0\Word\Data
  13. In the left pane, right-click Data, and then click Delete. Click Yes to confirm the deletion of the key. This deletes the company name for all new Word documents.
