Error message when you use a Microsoft keyboard to select a player from the Media Source menu: "Speedkey caused a general protection fault in module User.exe"

SYMPTOMS

When you use a Microsoft keyboard to select a player from the Media Source menu, you may receive the following error message:
This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.
When you click Details, you receive the following error message:
Speedkey caused a general protection fault in module User.exe.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:
  • Two keyboards are connected to your computer.
  • You simultaneously press the SPACEBAR on one keyboard and an ARROW key on the second keyboard when the Media Source menu is open.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Natural Keyboard Pro version 1.0.
