Cannot FTP to Windows NT 3.51 Server from Internet Explorer 5

SYMPTOMS

When you connect to a Windows NT Server 3.51 server with FTP, using Internet Explorer 5, you may receive the following error message:
An Error Occurred opening a folder on the FTP Site. Make sure you have permission to open this folder.

Details:
Error 550 /E:\/: the filename. Directory name or Volume label is incorrect.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, install Microsoft Internet Information Server or upgrade the server to Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 or later. You can use FTP in Internet Explorer 4.x or at a command prompt to connect to the Windows NT Server 3.51 server.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Internet Explorer 5.
