PPT2000: Resizing a Table Does Not Resize the Text

When you scale a table to a smaller or larger size, the text inside the table is not resized when the table is resized. This behavior is different from that of earlier versions of Microsoft PowerPoint, in which the text automatically scaled proportionately with text frames and AutoShape objects.

To work around this behavior, convert the table into a picture to simulate the behavior of scaling text:

1. Select the table you want to scale.
2. On the Edit menu, click Cut.
3. On the Edit menu, click Paste Special.
4. In the Paste Special dialog box, click Picture, and then click OK.
5. Select the table and then click Picture on the Format menu.
6. In the Format Picture dialog box, click the Size tab.
7. Adjust the scale percentage in the Height and Width boxes, and click OK.

NOTE: The table is now a picture, and is no longer an object that you can edit. To edit the text, you must ungroup the picture:

1. Select the picture.
2. On the Draw menu, click Ungroup.
3. When you receive the following message, click Yes to convert the picture to a collection of AutoShapes:
   This is an imported picture, not a group. Convert it to a Microsoft Office drawing object?

You can now edit the text. A good rule of thumb is to have the exact text you want in the text box before you convert the text box to a picture.
