SYMPTOMS

After you use the Backup tool to restore a complete system backup, some of your installed programs may not work correctly. Also, shortcuts located on your desktop may not function.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur because Backup does not back up short file names when you back up files.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, reinstall any programs that exhibit this behavior.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

MORE INFORMATION

When files are restored by Backup, they are restored in alphabetical order, and a new short file name is generated for each file. If the program you are using relies only on the short file names of the files installed by the program, the program may no longer function because it is attempting to use incorrect files.
