PRB: RasDial API Returns Error 629 in Release Version of the Application

In the following scenario, the Remote Access Server (RAS) client is running on Windows NT 4.0 (Service Pack 3 or later) and the RAS server is running on a non-Windows platform (for example, SCO UNIX). The phonebook entry is configured to use a RAS script for authenticating against the UNIX server. The application calls the RasDial API with this phonebook entry. If this application is run in its Release mode, then RasDial may return Error 629, ERROR_REMOTE_DISCONNECTION.

This problem may be caused by an improper setting of the modem speed.

The possible solution for this error is to change the modem speed settings. There are two methods to change the modem speed settings:

• Method 1
  1. Edit the phonebook entry's properties in the Dial Up Networking UI.
  2. Click Configure in the Basic tab.
  3. Choose a faster speed (19200 or more) from the Initial speed (bps) drop-down list box.
• Method 2
  1. On the Start menu, point to Settings, then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Ports.
  3. Choose the Port on which the RAS connection is being made.
  4. Click Settings.
  5. Increase the Baud Rate setting to 19200 or higher.
