Sleep Button Setting Changes from Hibernate to Standby in Power Management Tool

SYMPTOMS

When you change the setting of the When I press the sleep button on my computer option (located on the Advanced tab in the Power Management tool) to Hibernate, the setting may be reset to Standby when you restart the Power Management tool.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Power Management.
  2. On the Hibernate tab, click to select the Support Hibernation check box, and then click Apply.
  3. On the Advanced tab in the Power Buttons section, click the When I press the sleep button on my computer option, click Hibernate, and then click OK.

MORE INFORMATION

The Hibernate tab appears in Power Management properties only if the computer is configured to support hibernation. To determine whether your computer supports hibernation and how to enable that support, please consult your computer's documentation or manufacturer.
