Microsoft Phone is incompatible with Windows 2000, with Windows NT, and with Windows XP

SYMPTOMS

You cannot install the Microsoft Cordless Phone PC Phone System software in Windows 2000, Windows NT or Windows XP. When you attempt to install this software, you receive the following error message:
Microsoft Call Manager was not intended for this version of Windows.

CAUSE

The Microsoft Cordless Phone PC Phone System software is designed to run on Microsoft Windows 95 and Microsoft Windows 98 only. (It is not compatible with Windows Millennium.)

STATUS

This behavior is by design.

When you upgrade from Windows 95 or Windows 98 to Windows 2000 Professional or Windows XP, the Microsoft Cordless Phone PC Phone System software is added to the Compatibility report to indicate that the software will not work in Windows 2000 or Windows XP after the upgrade. The shortcut for the software is also removed from the Start menu.
