Windows Explorer Cannot Access Subst UNC Path

SYMPTOMS

When you use the subst command to associate a universal naming convention (UNC) path with a drive letter, you receive the following error message when you attempt to access the drive letter through My Computer or Microsoft Windows Explorer:
drive letter is not accessible.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior, use the net use command to map the drive letter to the UNC path.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional and Microsoft Windows 2000 Server.
