XL2000: Excel Quits When Printing to a Printer with a Long Name

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to print your workbook, Microsoft Excel quits unexpectedly. You receive the following error message, and your workbook is not printed:
EXCEL.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:
  • You are running Microsoft Windows 2000.

    -and-

  • You print to a printer that has a name longer than 113 characters.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1/1a (SR-1/SR-1a).
