The Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1/1a (SR-1/SR-1a)
Administrator Update is designed to update an administrative installation of
your Office 2000 programs and supporting files to SR-1/SR-1a level. This
article explains how to download and install the Microsoft Office 2000
SR-1/SR-1a Administrator Update.

Which Programs Can Be Updated?
The SR-1/SR-1a Administrator Update updates administrative
installations of the following Microsoft programs:
| • | Microsoft Office 2000 Premium Edition CD1, Professional
Edition CD1, Standard Edition, Small Business Edition, and Developer Edition
CD1

| • | All standalone Microsoft Office 2000 programs, including
Microsoft Excel 2000, Microsoft Word 2000, Microsoft Outlook 2000, Microsoft
Access 2000, Microsoft PowerPoint 2000, Microsoft FrontPage 2000, and Microsoft
Publisher 2000 |

How to Download and Install the SR-1/SR-1a Administrator Update
Download the SR-1/SR-1a Administrator Update
Please skip this section if you have the SR-1/SR-1a Update on CD.
| 1. | Point your Web browser to the following address: |
| 2. | Click the link to download Data1.exe. |
| 3. | Click Save this program to disk, and then
click OK. |
| 4. | Click Save. |
| 5. | In Windows Explorer, double-click the Data1.exe file. Click Yes when you are prompted to extract the contents of the update to a
new folder. |
| 6. | Type C:\Sr1admin in the
Please type the location where you want to place the extracted
files box, and then click OK. Click Yes when you are prompted to create the folder. |
Install the SR-1/SR-1a Administrator Update
NOTE: You must run this command from a computer that already has the
Windows Installer installed.
| 1. | Click Start, and then click Run. Type the following command in the Open box:
msiexec /a Admin Path\Data1.msi /p Source Path\data1.msp
SHORTFILENAMES=1 where Admin Path is the
path to your administrative installation point for Office 2000, and
Source Path is the path to Data1.msp. The path to
Data1.msp varies according to the following table.
SR-1/SR-1a Source Path to Data1.msp
------------------------------------------------------------
Data1.exe download C:\Sr1admin
SR-1/SR-1a Update CD <CD-ROM drive>\Admin
NOTE: <CD-ROM drive> in the preceding table is the drive letter
of your CD-ROM drive.
The Microsoft Office 2000
Administrative Mode dialog box appears.

| 2. | Click Next in the Microsoft Office 2000 Administrative Mode
dialog box.NOTE: You do not have to type your CD Key or company name in the
Microsoft Office 2000 Administrative Mode dialog
box.

| 3. | Click I accept the terms in the License
Agreement, and then click Next. |
| 4. | Click Install Now. |
At this point, your administrative installation point is
updated. Any new installations that you run from this administrative
installation point will include the Office 2000 SR-1/SR-1a updates.

How to Update Your Workstations
Use one of the following methods to update workstations on which
Office 2000 was already installed from your administrative installation point.
Method 1: If You Want to Update Only Office
Use the following steps to update Office if you do not need to
install Internet Explorer 5.01 or Windows Installer 1.1:
| 1. | Click Start, and then click Run. Type the following command in the Open box:
msiexec /i Admin Path\Data1.msi REINSTALL=ALL REINSTALLMODE=vomus where Admin Path is the
path to your administrative installation point for Office
2000.

| 2. | Click OK to the message that Setup completed successfully. |
| 3. | Click Yes if you are prompted to restart your computer. |
Method 2: If You Want to Update Office, Internet Explorer, and the Windows Installer
If you need to update to Internet Explorer 5.01 and Windows
Installer 1.1 as well as update Office, you must run Setup.exe from your
administrative installation point at each workstation.
Method 3: If You Want to Update Only Office and the Windows Installer
If you want to update your workstations to Office 2000 SR-1/SR-1a
and Windows Installer 1.1, but you do not want to update or install Internet
Explorer, you can use the following command line to run Setup.exe from your
administrative installation point:
Admin Path\Setup.exe noie=true
where
Admin Path is the
path to your administrative installation point for Office 2000.
