Searching support for non-Windows 2000 clients

SYMPTOMS

Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 or Microsoft Windows 9.x clients who are trying to search for users that use the "first name/last name" method may receive the following error message:
Operation could not be completed

System is missing software components necessary to complete the search.

CAUSE

The Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 9.x platforms do not have the ability to perform Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) queries in the Active Directory.

RESOLUTION

To perform these searching capabilities, the Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 9.x platforms must have the Active Directory client installed.
