Article ID: 259728 - Last Review: May 12, 2007 - Revision: 8.3 MS00-029: Windows Hangs with Fragmented IP DatagramsThis article was previously published under Q259728 On This PageSYMPTOMS Windows may become sluggish, or may stop responding (hang).
You may also notice that the System process is consuming most or all of the CPU
resources. CAUSE If IP fragments having a particular malformation are sent
to a Windows NT 4.0 or Windows 2000 computer in a continuous stream at a
relatively low data rate, an implementation flaw will cause the computer to
devote most or all of its CPU availability to processing the incoming
fragments. RESOLUTIONWindows 2000To resolve this problem, obtain the latest service pack for Windows 2000. For additional information, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:260910
