Article ID: 261934 - Last Review: September 14, 2004 - Revision: 1.0 Description of the version differences between the Office 2000 SR-1 and SR-1a updatesThis article was previously published under Q261934 On This PageSUMMARY In some situations, you may need to determine whether your
computer has the Microsoft Office 2000 SR-1 update or the Microsoft Office 2000
SR-1a update installed. When you click About Microsoft Product on the Help menu or view the list of installed products in the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel, you always see the text "SR-1", regardless of
which update was installed. This article assumes that you installed the original Office 2000 product and then installed either the Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1 Update or the Microsoft Office 2000 Service Release 1a Update. The "More Information" section of this article explains how to determine which version of the update is installed on your computer. NOTE: If you need to determine whether you have the Office 2000 SR-1 full product CD-ROM or the Office 2000 SR-1a full product CD-ROM, please refer to the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article: 267839

MORE INFORMATIONThe "About" Dialog BoxIf you click About Microsoft Product on the Help menu in any of the Office programs, the dialog box that appears reads "SR-1", whether you have SR-1 or SR-1a installed. This is because the SR-1a update does not update any files that are not updated by the SR-1 update. Therefore, do not view the About Microsoft Product information to determine which version of the SR-1 update is installed. For additional information about determining whether you need to apply the SR-1a update, click the article number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: 261933

OFF2000: What Is the SR-1a Update?
How to Determine Whether SR-1 Update or SR-1a Update Is Installed on the ComputerYou can view certain properties of the SR-1 and SR-1a .msp update files to determine which version is installed on your computer. If you downloaded the O2ksr1dl.exe file from the Office Resource Kit Toolbox Web site, you can find the files that are listed in the "Size of the .Msp Files" section of this article, in the root of the folder into which you extracted the contents of the O2ksr1dl.exe download. The files are also in the MSP folder on the root of the update CD-ROM. If you ran the update from the Tools on the Web Product Updates Catalog, or you downloaded the O2ksr1.exe file from the Tools on the Web site, you do not see files with these names on your computer. Instead, you find renamed copies of these files in your \Windows\Installer folder. The new names of these .msp files vary from computer to computer, therefore you must cross-reference the properties of these files with the information that is listed in this article. Also, you may not have all of the .msp files (which are listed in the "Size of the .Msp Files" section of this article) cached in your \Windows\Installer folder. The number of cached .msp files is a function of the Office 2000 programs that you have installed. NOTE: These files may be hidden. For instructions on how to unhide these files, refer to your operating system documentation. Size of the .Msp FilesThe size of the .msp update files varies slightly between the two different versions of the update.SR-1.Msp file Size (bytes) ---------------------------- Data1.msp 28,313,600 Data2.msp 13,551,616 ART.msp 8,408,576 FPSE.msp 739,328 OWS.msp 7,765,504 SR-1a.Msp file Size (bytes) ---------------------------- Data1.msp 27,412,992 Data2.msp 13,695,488 ART.msp 8,410,624 FPSE.msp 739,328 OWS.msp 7,765,504 GUID of the .Msp FilesYou can also check the GUID for the .msp files.
