Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server (SBS) version 4.5 includes a suite of client/server programs including a fax service. This includes fax client software for Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98, and Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 client workstations. A fax update that supports faxing from Microsoft Windows 2000 Professional clients is now available.

There are three tasks to accomplish to install the updated fax service and Windows 2000 Professional fax client:

To Install the Fax Update on the SBS 4.5 ServerThis procedure updates the SBS fax service and installs a Windows 2000-compatible fax printer for each fax printer you currently have installed. For example, if you have printers called fax and fax2 that service Windows NT, Windows 95, or Windows 98 clients, additional printers are set up named, fax-w2k, and fax2-w2k, and these printers service Windows 2000 Professional clients.Before beginning the update process:

To update the fax service for Windows 2000 Professional clients:
To Install the Client Update PackageNOTE: If you have not already upgraded a client to Windows 2000 Professional, complete these steps before you start the Windows 2000 fax client installation.To continue with the update if you have already upgraded to Windows 2000 Professional, go to the The Update Procedure section.
The Update ProcedureIf this is a new installation of Windows 2000 Professional, set up the client in the SBS Console on the SBS server.
After You Complete the SetupIf the SBS 4.5 fax client is installed before you upgraded to Windows 2000 Professional, remove the folders and icons from the old version. Control Panel now contains a SBS Fax icon and a Fax icon. The Fax icon is used to configure the Windows 98, or Windows NT fax client information. During the Windows 2000 upgrade, it is replaced by Personal Fax for Windows. If you do not have a local modem installed, this icon does not start the fax service.To remove previous versions of the fax client:
