BUG: HTML Help: Converting from Winhelp to HTML Help Leaves Bitmaps Behind

SYMPTOMS

When you use the HTML Help Workshop to convert a Winhelp project to an HTML Help project, bitmaps in the .rtf files are not transferred to the HTML Help .htm files.

CAUSE

This problem is caused by a bug in the conversion software that causes only linked bitmaps, and not embedded bitmaps, to be converted.

RESOLUTION

To avoid this problem, the bitmap must be in a separate .bmp or .wmf file that has been included in the .rtf document through the use of the {bmc}, {bml}, or {bmr} code or an INCLUDEPICTURE field. The conversion software does not recognize bitmaps that were embedded in the .rtf document through the "Insert Picture" command or that were pasted from the clipboard, for example.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a bug in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
