ESE Hangs Following Rollback After JetPrepareUpdate

This article was previously published under Q268107
Expand all | Collapse all

SYMPTOMS

Rollback ends the current transaction and restores the databases in the Workspace object to the state they were in when the current transaction began. However, Rollback after JetPrepareUpdate does not free allocated cache, and this may cause the Extensible Storage Engine (ESE) to stop responding (hang).

CAUSE

This problem can occur because Rollback does not provide code to free the buffer. The Update status is reset, but the buffer is not freed.
