SUMMARY

This article provides information about working offline in Entourage.

MORE INFORMATION

When you use Entourage, you can close the active connection to the Internet and work offline. Use the Offline mode if you want to minimize telephone connection time or if you do not want to pay toll charges for the Internet connection.

When you work in Offline mode, you do not need to change your configuration. Procedures that require that a connection is established are suspended during offline sessions (For example, any scheduled e-mail message deliveries do not occur). This feature avoids "mail server not found" error messages.

When you work in Offline mode, you can read e-mail messages that you have downloaded, and respond to e-mail messages by using the Send Later command. E-mail messages that you respond to when you work offline are placed in your Outbox until you re-establish the connection. After you re-establish the connection, click Send & Receive to deliver the e-mail messages that are in your Outbox. Both calendar and task reminders are not affected when you use Entourage in Offline mode.

After you compose and send e-mail messages while you are offline, you can return to Online status. To return to Online status, click the Tools menu, click any Run Schedule item or click Send & Receive All. When you do this, you receive the following message:
The application is currently in "Work Offline: mode which keeps it from connecting to the network. Would you like to override this to complete the requested operation?
When you click Work Online, you are connected to network status. When you click Override, all queued messages are sent and Entourage is returned to Offline mode.
