SYMPTOMS

When you upgrade from Microsoft Word 98 to Microsoft Word 2001, the following settings are loaded by default.

Feature	Status
Large toolbar button icons	Off
Show ScreenTips on toolbars	On
Show shortcut keys in ScreenTips	Off
WYSIWYG font menus	Off
Standard toolbar	Visible

Any customized settings that vary from these settings are not retained after the upgrade.

To work around this behavior, customize your settings as needed in Microsoft Word 2001.

MORE INFORMATION

Only the standard toolbar is displayed by default after the installation of Word 2001. Any additional commands added to the standard toolbar in Word 98 are upgraded and retained in Word 2001.
