Working in Background Cursor Does Not Appear When You Load a Web Page

SYMPTOMS

After you upgrade your computer system to Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or Internet Explorer 6, and then click on a hyperlink or a URL, your computer's pointer may not change to a Working In Background state.

WORKAROUND

To work around this behavior, you may be able to update the pointer's settings if you use one of the following two methods:
  • Move the pointer to a different location on the Web page.
  • Hold the pointer over the taskbar or the toolbar.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section of this article.

To locate the Working In Background setting, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Mouse.
  2. Click the Pointers tab.
  3. In the Customize box, click Working In Background.
