SYMPTOMS

After you connect a Kodak DS 4500 Color Scanner to a computer that runs Windows XP and then restart the computer, the Found New Hardware Wizard detects the scanner but may incorrectly identify it as a "KODAK DS Scanner 4000 SCSI scanner device."

The wizard also reports that it cannot find a driver for the scanner, and the wizard may list the scanner under other devices in Device Manager.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if Windows XP cannot find the .inf file that contains the correct name for the scanner and therefore uses the name from the scanner's firmware.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this behavior, contact Kodak to ask about updated information and drivers.
